PLAR (Prior Learning Assessment Recognition)

CA$350.00

At Aubrey Academy, we recognize that learning happens in many ways—through formal education, work experience, independent study, volunteering, and personal achievements. Our Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) service allows students to receive Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) credits for knowledge and skills acquired outside of traditional schooling.

What is PLAR?

PLAR is a process designed for students who have prior learning experience that may be equivalent to high school credit courses. Through this assessment, students can earn credits without having to complete a full course, helping them graduate faster and save time and money.

Who Can Benefit from PLAR?

PLAR is ideal for:
Mature students (18+) looking to complete their OSSD
✅ Students with international education who need Ontario credit equivalencies
✅ Individuals with work experience relevant to high school courses
✅ Students with independent learning, certifications, or special training

How Does PLAR Work?

  1. Assessment of Prior Learning – Students submit transcripts, certificates, portfolios, or proof of experience.

  2. Evaluation Process – Depending on the subject, students may complete an assessment (exam, interview, or demonstration of skills).

  3. Credit Recognition – Once assessed, equivalent credits are granted towards the OSSD.

PLAR Service Fee

The cost for each course granted through PLAR is $300 per credit. This fee covers the official credit recognition process.
